Description

Express yourself...

The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band

We work with people who identify as artists, and even more who insist they are not. Our job is to open the doors to the ever-present riches inside us all. If can you move, you can dance, if you can make a shopping list you can write a poem, if you can breathe you can sing. If you try on more than one shirt in the morning, or enjoy the color mix of raspberries, blueberries and yogurt, you are a visual artist.

In this lively retreat, we will open the book on our lives and take note. Each day interweaves dance, writing, sketching, tearing and gluing, sitting silently, and making a gorgeous mess. In this play of expression we find our own creative presence, rather than a product or perfection. Gems of our one-of-a-kind style are revealed in the company of others, authenticity and intimacy emerge.

In this time of worldly madness, such authentic tenderness is balm for our souls.

Prerequisites are:

  • Readiness to risk sudden moments of brilliance
  • Willingness to tolerate the anxiety of “doing it wrong”
  • An interest in driving off the main highways of habit and enjoying getting lost
  • A suitcase full of loves, losses, and life stories that make us all human, humble and divine
