Therapy in Motion Lab – September 2021

Therapy in Motion: Integrating Mind, Body, and Emotion for Deeper Psychological Healing

In Therapy in Motion we place the moving body at the center of the therapeutic process.

We integrate relational approaches, attachment theory and practice, trauma work, emotions and cognition into an embodied movement exploration for richer therapeutic outcomes.

The Lab introduces some of the core movement resources of Open Floor practice. You will learn skills for tracking sensations, impulses, movements, and cycles of activation and settling that naturally occur in the body to support your clients’ experience and healing process.

Therapists will experience how embodiment practice can support the refining of personal narrative in the process of integration.

I appreciate the skillful way in which attachment theory was woven throughout along with the movement resources. I enjoyed the mixture of top down and bottom up processing, and the time allotted to pure practice to integrate my own process through movement. I arrived home inspired to explore movement more fully in my therapeutic practice; to use attuned witnessing to resonate with the dancer and to bring words to what is missing in order to invite fuller expression in my clients."

Open Floor realizes that the current world situation affects everyone differently, and we are committed to making our programs available to the people who want to attend, regardless of socioeconomic status. The Mudra Scholarship Fund has been established to help those in need. If finances will keep you from attending, we encourage you to apply. After acceptance, you may request scholarship information.

OFI gives scholarships to increase the diversity of OFI students and teachers as a first step in becoming a move inclusive movement. Priority is given to applicants who belong to racial, religious, cultural, sexual identity, geographic, and ability groups that have traditionally been underrepresented populations in the field of mindful movement and conscious dance. To qualify for the scholarship, prospective students demonstrate a commitment to diversity as it relates to their interest in mindful movement for personal healing, professional growth, and community building.

We are actively working to make our trainings more attractive to people who identify as Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC), LBGQT+, gender fluid, differently abled, and people living in less wealthy regions, by lowering the price to encourage participation. If you identify as or serve such a population, we would like to hear from you! There is no need to prove financial need.

For more information on either Fund, please email [email protected]

Cancellation up to 30 days before an event: refund minus a $100 fee. No refunds less than 1 month from the start of a Lab.
