Shakaya McFarland is a licensed mental health counselor, somatic practitioner, energy healer, and Open Floor teacher. She blends trauma-informed therapy with somatic and movement-based practices to guide clients in reconnecting to their bodies, reclaiming personal power, and cultivating holistic well-being. Her sessions integrate ancient wisdom traditions—breathwork, earth medicine, and ritual healing—with modern somatic tools for nervous system regulation, healing race-based and socio-cultural trauma, and balancing emotional, mental, and spiritual discord.
Shakaya’s lifelong passion for dance began on the East Coast, where she trained in West African, Salsa, Modern, Hip-Hop, Caribbean Folklore, and Breaking in Washington, DC. It was there that she fell in love with House Music—its movement, its community, and its cultural roots in queer and Black American spaces. This passion led her to create House~Ology, an active community and resource for original House Music lovers.
After a six-year break from dance, Shakaya returned to the floor in 2018, deepening her practice as both a mover and facilitator. In 2024, she completed her training with Open Floor International and became a certified teacher. Shakaya now lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she teaches, DJs, and creates spaces for embodied healing. Her guiding belief: Movement is medicine, and freedom is the ultimate practice.
