Spirit House Ongoing Group

Workshop Teacher:
Workshop Description:

Open Floor Movement Practice is about two things: embodiment and relationship. Our body is our home address for spirit-filled living. To be embodied simply means being home so that we can be touched by every delight and rich disaster that life brings our way.

The San people of the Kalahari desert live embodied lives, close to the earth and to each other. They know that every body houses three healthy hungers for relationship:

  • our hunger for solitude
  • our hunger for connection and intimacy
  • our hunger for belonging to something larger than ourselves

As we change over the course of our lives, so do our innate hungers. We may feel satisfied with our alone time and yearn for partnership. We can find ourselves with lots of close connections yet long for time alone. Sometimes we feel a deep desire to belong and contribute to a community that values our gifts.

In this year-long group we will use movement, meditation, artmaking, and ritual - as well as the riches of our consciously created community - to highlight all our relationships, both on and off the dance floor. We will practice radical honesty as we witness where we turn toward or away from ourselves and one another. Dance will be our medicine and our medium to restore a sense of balance, joy, and value for the unique contribution we each offer.

Together, we will welcome each other home to the Spirit House.
