What is it to teach?
“To create a space where the community of truth is practiced.” That’s what Parker Palmer says.
Where the community of truth is practiced. I can sign up for that. With preschoolers. With 80 year olds. With you or him or her. And Open Floor is one way. One beautiful, honest, rich way to practice truth. Over and over again.
Why do I teach? Because I have spent so much of my life hiding my voice. Terrified to speak because of sister or father, but really because of wounds that are far older than anyone in my immediate family. And I believe in too many things to keep hiding. I believe in quiet things. Fierce things too. I believe in the wisdom and power inherit inside our bodies. I believe that we are all okay, just as we are. That there isn’t so much we have to DO to be better or whole-r, or more healed. I believe that by moving our bodies, by expressing how we are in any moment, we tell our our stories and build connection with ourselves and each other in a honest way.
May I, if anything, teach you less, and contribute more to a community where your voice and your truth, can come through.
